The organization’s president John Scot-Wright, told Deming Radio News that they are no longer using Roadrunner Food Services, will be distributing 240 food boxes every month. They are now making food purchases locally at Pepper’s Supermarket, keeping funds in the local community.
The organization raises money for local food distribution by accepting and reselling thrift store items at their large blue building at 3108 Raymond Reed Blvd in the Industrial Park.
Commodity food boxes are handed out every third Thursday of each month.
Scot-Wright, said that recipients of commodities must have a state license or identification card, and receipt proof of being local to Luna County.
Deming Helping Hand Thrift Store is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Scot-Wright said that the group wanted to thank the local community for the many years of support for the nonprofit, by donating and shopping at the thrift store.
Donations are accepted at the back of the building.
