Some of the students met with Lt. Governor John Sanchez and served as a page for Senator John Arthur Smith, while others set with the Speaker of the House and were introduced by Representative Dona Irwin.
Sponsor Mary Anderson said they made the journey to Santa Fe to participate in Career Technical Student Organization Day at the capitol.
The students spoke about legislation under consideration which would fund operations for career technical student organizations statewide.
The students – Erika Alvaraz, Jimena Chavez, Dakota Dwills, Miriam Garcia, Brandi Gonzales, Ryan Larko, Elva Lobato, Myriam Morales, Jessica Nieto and Darrian Palmer – are participants in the Deming High SkillsUSA Health Care Science Program.
The students spoke about how the program developed their leadership skills and gave them an opportunity to intern in their career fields.
