A media release said the district is pushing back the start date of the 2017-2018 school year to Monday, August 14th, because of some unforeseen delays in construction of the new Deming High School.
The previously approved school calendar had the start date as Monday, August 7th.
The new start date will affect all schools in the district, including all elementaries, Deming Intermediate School, Red Mountain Middle School and Deming High School.
Superintendent Dr. Arsenio Romero said they are announcing the new start date now to give parents as much time as possible to prepare for the one-week delay to the start of the upcoming school year.
Romero said the delay will provide the opportunity for construction to be completed, all inspections to be finalized, safe access and exits routed to the new high school, and school staff to prepare for incoming students.
Deming Public Schools staff will still report to work on August 1st as originally scheduled, and school offices will open August 1st.
Also, athletics and activities will not be affected by the new start date.
