Teachers will return to work August 1st, with students reporting August 4th.
The calendar includes a break the week of October 3rd, the Thanksgiving holiday week-long break in November, Christmas break from December 22nd-January 4th, and spring break the week of March 13th.
The last day of school for students will be May 25th, 2017.
In advocating for the extended calendar, School Superintendent Dr. Dan Lere said there was some evidence that shortening the summer might improve student achievement in target areas of second-language learners and students from households in lower socio-economic levels, and there was no evidence that it would harm student achievement.
The current school year includes a week-long break in May which pushed the last day of school into June. The May break is not included in the 2016-2017 calendar.
