The event is supported by the City of Deming, Luna County, Deming Public Schools and the Atrisco Heritage Foundation.
Deming School Board President Dr. Andy Hernandez said students in Deming’s afterschool programs can nurture everything from leadership skills to the fine arts to robotics.
The Afterschool Alliance recently funded a study and found that there is a huge demand for after-school programs. The “America After 3PM” study found that for every child in an after-school program, two children were waiting to get in.
To help provide after-school programs in Deming, the school district received a grant from the Atrisco Heritage Foundation in Albuquerque.
In addition to the grant, the district also receives funding from the city and county, which makes it possible to have programs at every elementary school and Deming Intermediate School.
