The money was used to purchase MyPlate child’s portion meal plates and educational cards for the 574 students at Columbus Elementary.
MyPlate depicts the proper eating portions needed to maintain good health.
Classroom teachers reportedly distributed the plates as the framework of a healthy eating lesson.
Officials said the program directly correlates with the new health curriculum and provides positive reinforcement of the need for students to learn and practice healthy habits to combat childhood obesity and promote a healthy lifestyle.
In addition, the program involves parents and other family members to help them learn healthy portions and foods as well.
