A media release said that due to a new fingerprinting process, the district is unable to fingerprint anyone for activities outside the school district.
Officials said the new guidelines are the result of the district going to digital, “paperless” fingerprinting this month which can yield background check results in days instead of the weeks or months it used to take for paper fingerprinting.
But the district’s contract with the electronic fingerprinting service provider prohibits fingerprinting anyone other than potential teachers, administrators, volunteers, substitutes, contract employees, interns, and educational assistants, among others.
Before being fingerprinted, a person must have been hired or accepted as a volunteer.
