A media release said that when compared to the previous year, statewide math scores increased 1.9 percent and reading increased 2.5 percent.
Deming Public Schools outpaced the state in growth, with a 3.5 percent increase in math and a 3.2 percent increase in reading, marking the largest percentage gains as a district Deming has seen in the last three years.
Previously, Deming Public Schools gained an average of approximately 1.5 percent per year in both reading and math.
Deming High School grew in every tested subject by four percentage points or more. Other grade levels across the district that demonstrated marked success were 4th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades.
Another area highlighted was the number of students who moved up in levels of proficiency. The release said 746 students moved up at least one level in proficiency in reading, while 623 students moved up at least one level in math.
It was noted that DPS remains below the state average in overall proficiency, but officials are optimistic that this year’s growth is helping close the gap.
