Officials said bus three got stuck near the intersection of Ventura and Tia Rita roads, causing some students to be tardy to school but no other problems.
Transportation Department Administrative Assistant Crystal Gonzales said a relief bus picked up students on the route who had not already boarded the stuck bus.
Reportedly, some students were taken to school by parents, but others waited for M-and-T Bus Company officials to get the bus unstuck.
Gonzales said all affected students were given a school-sanctioned excused tardy.
She added that the drivers do their best on the county’s unpaved roads in all types of weather, but the spotty downpours Sunday caused excessive mud at that intersection.
The automated weather system at the Deming airport recorded .70 of an inch of rain Sunday – although residents in some parts of the county reported receiving over an inch of rain.
