Deming Police Chief Brandon Gigante said the department’s reaccreditation certificate was presented at the New Mexico Municipal League’s Policing 2015 Law Enforcement Conference.
Gigante announced in October that the department was reaccredited following a three-day intensive inspection that month by assessors from the New Mexico Municipal League.
The visit was part of the three-year reaccreditation process through the accreditation program of the New Mexico Law Enforcement Professional Standards Council.
Beyond assuring that a department maintains standards, accreditation has a bottom-line impact by lowering a department’s liability insurance costs.
Gigante said only 20 out of the 108 municipal law enforcement agencies in the state are accredited – and only six have achieved reaccreditation.
The reaccredited status will be in effect for three years.
