Officials say unused prescription drugs often become part of the illegal substance abuse problem in a community.
Deming Police Chief Brandon Gigante said even illegal narcotics can be turned in. No questions will be asked.
The location for this Saturday's DEA "take back" initiative will be the lobby of the Deming Police Department at 700 East Pine. Drop-off boxes will be set up from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Residents are asked to drop off their unused, unwanted and expired prescription drugs or illegal narcotics -- no questions asked. They are asking you to place any liquid medications in a sealed container, and not to bring needles or syringes.
Gigante also suggested that you take the label off a prescription medication jar or bottle, or use a black marker to black out the personal information, to protect your privacy.
Again, the drop-off boxes will be set up inside the lobby of the Deming Police Department, 700 East Pine, this Saturday from 10 to 2. The service is free and anonymous -- no questions will be asked.
