An unofficial roster of declared candidates was released late Tuesday, revealing that only the incumbent municipal judge drew an opponent – and he drew two.
Municipal Judge Frank VanGundy, who is running for his third full term after being appointed in 2006, is being challenged by Julie Mendez and Mike Eby.
Also up for election this cycle is Council District two – the seat currently held by Roxana Rincon, and council district three – the seat currently held by Joe “Butter” Milo.
Rincon is running unopposed for her first full term in office. She was appointed to the city council in March of last year, to fill the unexpired term of Linda Enis-Franklin, who moved out of her district.
And Milo is running unopposed for his sixth full term in office. He was appointed in 1994 to fill the council seat vacated by David Arriola, who moved out of his district.
Again, candidate declarations are unofficial until certified by the Municipal Clerk. The official declaration list will be posted at City Hall prior to 9 a.m. Thursday.
The election will be held on Tuesday, March 1st.
