The victim, a 48-year-old man, was flown to El Paso for treatment of the gunshot wound in his lower leg. He told officers he had no idea who shot him.
According to the Deming Police Department report, the victim said a man knocked on the door of his home in the 500 block of South Pearl at about 10:30 Thursday night.
The victim said he went to the door and saw a man wearing a ski mask, then told the man he was calling the police. That’s when the man reportedly kicked in the door of the residence and fired two shots, one of which struck the victim.
The victim’s mother, who also was home at the time of the shooting, called 911. The shooter immediately fled the scene.
The victim described the gun as a “small rifle.”
Police continue to investigate.
