A Luna County Sheriff’s department report said 31-year-old Jose Osornio was pronounced dead at the scene after being ejected from the 2004 Ford F150 pickup he had been driving.
There were no other passengers in the vehicle.
The accident occurred at about 11 p.m. Sunday on State Road 11 between mile markers 21 and 22.
State Police officials said Osornio was southbound when he drove onto the right shoulder of the roadway, then crossed both travel lanes, and overturned several times on the northbound shoulder.
Osornio was not wearing his seatbelt.
State Police investigators said alcohol and speed are believed to have been contributing factors in the crash.
Reportedly, Border Patrol agents were first on the scene and attempted to render aid to Osornio, but emergency medical responders determined he died on impact.
Osornio’s vehicle erupted into flames and burned following the accident.
