A media release said Deming MainStreet applied to make façade improvements to four buildings on Gold Street in downtown Deming.
Organizers said the project hopefully will leverage additional commercial renovations and set an example of how modest investments can improve the district and sales at local businesses.
MainStreet officials believe an attractive business area or historic district can draw additional customers and improve the tax base, as well as bring new businesses downtown.
One of New Mexico MainStreet’s approaches is to rehabilitate historic business districts through design services that assist with improvements to business interiors and exteriors, like the façade improvements planned in downtown Deming.
No specific buildings were indicated in the award designation.
