The pots, which are replicas of authentic Mimbres pots and weigh over 900 pounds each, have been placed at Leyendecker Park at the corner of Spruce and Gold streets, and at the Deming-Luna-Mimbres Museum, 301 South Silver Avenue.
The two pots, created by Benny Duran of Desert Bloom, Incorporated, in Albuquerque, are the first two installments of a way-finder program designed to boost tourism and commerce in Deming.
The pots will eventually contain plaques providing information on the pots which will direct people to a historic location nearby, encouraging pedestrians in the downtown business district.
More pots and plaques are planned.
The way-finder project is being funded by a grant awarded to the Deming MainStreet program.
Designs for the pots reportedly were chosen from the many pieces of Mimbreno pottery on display at the museum.
