Deming MainStreet Executive Director Chris Stevens said they want the community to know they are here to preserve the historic downtown area, adding they want to make Deming a destination through beautification and historic preservation.
The Deming MainStreet board president is Barbara Reedy, vice-president is Ron Wolf, secretary is Monica Stanley and treasurer is Tamara Hurt.
Current MainStreet projects include updating the walking tour brochures and completing a plaque project which will have 16 plaques placed on designated historical buildings in the downtown area. Each plaque will depict an etching of the building along with a brief history of the building.
Also, MainStreet is working with the city, PNM and Union Pacific Railroad on the Pocket Park Project. The park, located off Pine Street between Gold and Silver, will eventually have new lighting, benches, a mural and a water fountain.
