Museum officials said the Bessie May Room has been spruced up with repaired floors, a fresh coat of paint and some new electrical work. The room is named after one of the founders of the museum. May was a retired Deming school teacher.
The museum’s art gallery also was painted, with a corner wall accented in a deep maroon color, giving it a Victorian appearance. And the museum is reopening as it celebrates a prestigious award from TripAdvisor. The award is based on quality of reviews and opinions submitted to the TripAdvisor interactive site over the past year.
The museum has brought in new exhibits over the past year, as well as freshening existing exhibits.
Officials said the second floor has a number of new exhibits, including a new Deming Wildcat exhibit, which was a huge success during this year’s Old Timers reunion.
Museum Director Virginia Pool said they had a lot of positive comments during the reunion on the old sports photos, lettermens’ jackets and other Wildcat items.
Pool said they continue to improve the museum in an effort to give the public a reason to come back time and time again.
The museum is located at 301 South Silver Ave.
