Deming-Luna County Economic Development Director Cassie Arias said their retirement committee has worked to achieve the certification from the American Association of Retirement Communities.
The certification includes a Seal of Approval for communities that meet certain quality-of-life and standards-of-living criteria, including medical services, continuing education programs, safety and cultural opportunities.
Arias stressed that today’s retirees bring a lot to a community, adding that retired people are investors, educators and leaders in communities and contribute through entrepreneurship, volunteer work and discretionary income which they can spend locally.
Arias recently attended the American Association of Retirement Communities conference to accept Deming’s 2016 Seal of Approval Award.
As part of the award, Deming will receive free marketing on the organization’s website.
Deming is the only community west of the Mississippi to have the AARC Seal of Approval designation.
