49-year-old Randy Zarate, who teaches Spanish at Deming High, was arrested on a Magistrate warrant for violating a restraining order through aggravated stalking.
Deming Police Chief Brandon Gigante said Zarate’s pattern of conduct in violating the restraining order was through telephone contact with his victim – primarily text messaging.
Gigante said the victim had a stipulated court order which prohibited any form of communication.
Zarate was arrested by Deming Police Monday after school in the DHS Hofacket Building where he teaches Spanish I and II.
DPS Athletic Director Mike Ellis confirmed that Zarate is in his second year as head coach of boys’ and girls’ track at Deming High. His official school website page said he also has served as assistant coach of girls’ varsity basketball.
