That was the total announced Tuesday night by Deming High School Principal Janean Garney at the Deming High School Awards and Scholarship Recognition Program in the Deming Public Schools auditorium.
Garney said she phrases the announcement emphasizing “potential” because some students are offered opportunities at more than one college or university, and so will have to decline some of the scholarships.
Also, Garney said the total reflects four-year commitments from the institutions.
Local scholarships totaled nearly $82,000… offers from out-of-state schools totaled nearly $237,000… offers from in-state schools totaled over $1.9 million… and national scholarships totaled $15,800.
Also, 10 students committed to military careers, receiving nearly $948,000 in awards from military branches.
The Deming High Class of 2016 will graduate Friday at 8 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.
