That was the total announced Monday night by Deming High School Principal Janean Garney at the Deming High School Awards and Scholarship Recognition Program in the Deming Public Schools auditorium.
Garney said she phrases the announcement emphasizing “potential” because some students are offered opportunities at more than one college or university, and so will have to decline some of the scholarships.
Local scholarships totaled over $88,000… offers from out-of-state schools totaled over $896,000… offers from in-state schools totaled nearly 1.2 million… and other scholarships totaled over $10,700.
Also, 12 students looking at military careers received over $966,000 in awards from three separate military branches: Army, Marines and Navy.
The Deming High Class of 2014 will graduate Friday evening at Memorial Stadium.
