(Deming) – The Deming FFA Chapter had a state-winning team and two high-point individuals during the state FFA Career Development Events competition in Las Cruces last week.
The Deming High Agronomy team placed first in the state, and Brannick Sweetser was highpoint in Agronomy while Annie Kuenstler was highpoint in Landscape Design.
Deming had the top six individuals in the Agronomy competition in the state:  Sweetser was first; Keri Hays – second; Shelbie Peterson – third; Graham Borden – fourth; Tee Pickett – fifth; and Kylan Swinney – sixth.
The first-place team of Sweetser, Peterson, Borden and Pickett won the right to represent New Mexico at the National FFA Convention in Louisville, Kentucky, in October.
Deming also had the second-place Agronomy team… the third-place Pasture and Range and Landscape Design teams… the fourth-place Wildlife team… and the fifth-place Homesite and Floriculture teams.
The Pasture and Range team qualified to compete at the National Land and Range Contest in Oklahoma City in two weeks.  In that state competition last week, Jason Lewis placed sixth at state and Spencer McFaul was eighth.
The Deming FFA advisors are Larry Von Tress and Susie Swope.
