Kenneth Milton, who will soon be moving to Deming from Alamogordo, has cerebral palsy and needed help to make his 1970 mobile home accessible.
Reportedly, the interior doorways were too narrow, and a walk-in shower was needed.
In addition, outside steps had to be replaced with a ramp suitable for wheelchair use.
The Elks’ Cerebral Palsy Program funding was able to cover all the needed modifications.
The contractor on the job was Mike Leyba with Chaparral Construction, who also is a member of the local Elks Lodge.
State cerebral palsy funds come from all 23 lodges in New Mexico and El Paso, and are distributed as needed.
Applications are available online at nmelks.org.
Anyone with cerebral palsy in need of assistance is encouraged to apply.
