Police Chief Brandon Gigante said it appears the thief or thieves entered the wastewater treatment plant facility in the 4300 block of East J Street on foot, and then drove the city’s 1995 Chevrolet S-10 pickup through the gate to get out.
The truck was last seen at 5 p.m. Monday, and the damage and missing truck were discovered about 5 a.m. Tuesday.
The truck has city of Deming decals on it.
Gigante said a backhoe at the facility was moved, but left – apparently during the same burglary.
The truck was valued at $5,000, and contained a tool box with approximately $1,000 worth of tools. Damage to the chain-link gate and fence was estimated at $250.
Anyone with information on the theft of the city truck and tools is encouraged to call the Deming Police Department at 546-3011, use TipSoft by anonymously submitting information via text to LUNATIP at CRIMES – or 274637, or call Crime Stoppers at 546-7800.
