The arenas have been used for cowboy polo events and summer barrel racing and roping events as well as children’s rodeos.
Since 2011, the city has steadily begun repairs and improvements on the arenas in order to encourage more use of the facility.
Community Services Director Wes Hooper said they are looking for people to start roping schools or host roping events or rodeos. He said any type of equestrian event can be held in the arenas.
Hooper said the general public now uses the arenas for exercising their horses, adding that stall rentals are available for people passing through Deming with livestock.
The city reportedly is hoping to grow the facility into an event venue. The small arena, which is approximately 125’ by 250’, is available for $75 per event. The larger arena is approximately 150’ by 300’ and rents for $125 per event. There is a $75 cleaning fee per event and a $50-per-day water fee. Lighting is available at $10 per hour.
