
At the emergency meeting, held telephonically, the councilors also passed a resolution requesting stimulus financial support from the state through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security – or CARES – Act passed last week by the federal government.
The emergency declaration enables the city to exercise necessary emergency powers, expend available resources, and request aid, assistance and relief programs from the state and federal governments.
The resolution notes that the COVID-19 pandemic and the mitigating measures in place to slow the spread of the virus have significantly impacted the economy of Deming, in addition to the life and health of local residents.
