Tonight, (August 7th) from 7-10 p.m. residents in neighborhoods throughout Deming are asked to join people across the nation by locking their doors, turning on outside lights, and spending the evening outside with neighbors and law enforcement officers.
Deming Police Chief Bobby Orosco said a neighborhood event will take place at Courthouse Park featuring games, food, music, and fun for the entire family.
Businesses and non-profit organizations are encouraged to participate and set up a booth during the event at no charge.
National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, and co-sponsored locally by the Deming Police Department, Luna County Sheriff’s Department, Deming MainStreet, Deming Chamber of Commerce, Luna County, and the City of Deming.
National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support and participation in local anti-crime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police/community partnerships, and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
The Deming Police Department will be hosting another "Cram the Cruiser" event during the Night out at Courthouse Park.
A Deming Police Department unit will be parked the park.
Officers will be accepting donations of school supplies and they encourage residents to show support and donate.
All donations will be appreciated.
