According to a media release, approximately $165,000 will be available to eight communities for the grant cycle.
The first two grant applications will be for conditions-assessment reports – specifically for a recently acquired red brick building at 113 East Maple Street that was once home to Deming Water Works, and for the auditorium and storage room at Morgan Hall, 109 East Pine Street.
Architectural Historian Heather Barrett said a conditions-assessment report identifies character-defining features of historic buildings that should be retained, as well as provides insight into the needs of the structure.
The third grant application will be for the development of design standards and guidelines for the Downtown Deming Historic District, and the fourth and final grant application will be for the nomination of the Marshall Memorial Public Library building to be placed on the National Register.
The city of Deming received a Heritage Preservation Award in May for its efforts in listing the expanded Downtown Deming Historic District in the historic registers.
