Two Deming women have set up collection locations for duffle bags, back packs, newly purchased socks, underwear, flip-flops, deodorants, toothpaste, toothbrushes and other toiletries in an effort to help the local Children, Youth and Families foster care program.
The collection locations are at Mimbres Memorial Hospital, the John Strand Municipal Building and Western New Mexico University-Deming–Room 112.
Items will be collected through Thursday.
The drive is spearheaded by City Community Services Secretary Mary Mackey and County Planning Secretary Patricia Rodriguez, both of whom recently completed a Southwest New Mexico Leadership course offered through Western New Mexico University.
Part of the course is recognizing area needs and selecting a project to benefit the community.
After Thursday, supplies may be dropped off at the CYFD office at 918 East Pear.
