Laynee Kuenstler with the Luna County Cooperative Extension Service, said that anyone who now handles food for the public needs to have his or her food handler’s permit. This is for all forms of food service businesses, from large fast food, locally owned, and even food vendors during local events.
To assist local businesses to be in compliance, the Luna County Cooperative Extension Service will be offering the ServSafe Food Handlers class with two separate sections on Thursday February 16th , at the Mimbres Valley Learning Center.
The first class will begin at 9:00 a.m. and the second class will begin at 4:00 p.m. 35 participants will be allowed in each class with a cost of $40 a person. The cost collected by the Extension Office covers materials provided, along with a test and lecture.
Kuenstler said that everyone working with food must be certified as food handlers and all food service businesses must also have a certified food manager on shift at all times. The food manager’s courses, which are 8 hours long, will be given at a later date.
Persons needing the certification are encouraged to call the Extension Office to register by February 15 at 575-546-8806.
