DEMING – (The Deming Headlight) – The Columbus board of trustees and Mayor Esequiel Salas began a line-by-line review of the village’s budget and compared it to actual revenue and expenses for the current fiscal year last Tuesday evening. The village is trying to determine why the village effectively ran out of cash this quarter.
The Deming Headlight reported last week that this was the first in a series of special meetings addressing the budget.
Luna County Sheriff Mike Eby also attended the meeting, as the agenda included a new joint powers agreement between the village and the sheriff’s department for law enforcement services.
The village has not had a police department of its own since 2011.
