U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said the Antelope Wells crossing, located in the remote boot heel section of southwest New Mexico, will temporarily close at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 18th.
The officials cited significantly reduced traffic at the border brought on by essential-only travel restrictions imposed March 21st.
Before travel restrictions were enacted, officers at Antelope Wells were processing 350-450 northbound vehicles per week.
Since March 21st, officers have been processing only 50-60 vehicles per week.
Customs and Border Protection officials said the Columbus port of entry to the east, and the Douglas, AZ, port of entry to the west, remain open.
The Antelope Wells crossing will return to previous hours once current travel restrictions are lifted.
