A media release said 45-year-old Jose Valladolid was sentenced to 51 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release.
Valladolid was arrested August 6th of last year at the Columbus port of entry for being a felon in possession of firearms and attempting to export those firearms out of the United States.
Port officials arrested Valladolid after they found two semi-automatic rifles and ammunition in his vehicle.
At the time, Valladolid was prohibited from possessing firearms because he previously had been convicted of a marijuana trafficking crime.
Valladolid pled guilty in December of last year and admitted possessing the two semi-automatic rifles and ammunition, which he was attempting to smuggle into Mexico in order to deliver to another person.
He also admitted that he was prohibited from possessing the firearms because he was a convicted felon.
