The multicultural festival commemorates the March 9th, 1916, attack by troops of Mexican General Francisco "Pancho" Villa on the village of Columbus and adjacent U-S military camp, followed by the United States' response with the punitive expedition into Mexico by General John "Black Jack" Pershing and his soldiers.
Citizens of the Village of Columbus will welcome the annual Cabalgata Binacional horseback riders into the village plaza at 10 a.m.
Riders from Mexico will cross in the United States at Palomas, Mexico, and join with riders from the U.S. in a celebration of peace and goodwill between the two nations in Columbus.
Organizers say there will be food and music as part of the celebration.
Also, the 98th Annual Memorial Service held by the Columbus Historical Society in remembrance of those whose lives were lost during the 1916 raid, will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Depot Museum in Columbus.
And the 11th Annual Camp Furlong Day, featuring historical talks and slide-shows, will be held Saturday from 1-4 p.m. at Pancho Villa State Park off South Columbus Road in Columbus.
