City Administrator Aaron Sera said Deming’s National Guard armory is now the temporary shelter for migrants dropped off in Deming.
Sera said the asylees were relocated to the armory from the airport and fairgrounds Friday.
As of Monday morning, Sera said 50 asylees were housed at the armory.
He added that the fairgrounds were still being used for cooking, but was hopeful the cooking would be relocated within a couple of weeks.
The city of Deming’s Facebook page says over 7,000 asylees have been temporarily housed in Deming since Mother’s Day, with a two-day average length of stay.
