Officers checked his documents during their inspection and received an alert for an active warrant.
The officers took custody of Esquivel while confirming the warrant with Otero County officials.
Esquivel was then turned over to Luna County Sheriff’s deputies.
Acting Columbus Port Director Steve Carman said the agency’s
primary mission is homeland security, adding that the inspections they perform to support that effort often help locate people who are being sought by law enforcement.
