CenturyLink is working with the Federal Communications Commission to help expand broadband availability to local communities.
The company accepted approximately $1.3 million in Connect America Fund monies to bring broadband to high-cost, rural areas in New Mexico – like Deming. CenturyLink also reportedly is investing significant amounts of its own capital to fund the broadband expansion.
CenturyLink’s New Mexico general manager Valerie Dodd said they are bringing accelerated broadband speeds to 620 additional homes in the Deming community.
Deming Mayor Benny Jasso said he was pleased to see this type of continued investment from CenturyLink in the Deming area, adding that these types of broadband speeds will benefit local citizens by enabling more educational and economic opportunities.
Officials said a variety of speeds may be available, depending on where customers live.
