
According to a media release, the purpose of the rally is to protest the Trump administration’s Zero Tolerance Policy that has separated children from their parents with no plan in place to reunite them.
Local organizers say participants should meet at 10:30 Saturday morning at the Columbus Downtown Plaza on the south side of the gas station on Highway 11.
Then participants will have a car caravan to the Immigration Memorial Shrine – and walk to the entrance of the Mexican Port of Entry.
At 7:30 p.m., participants will hold a light vigil at the Columbus Plaza and be given an opportunity to speak. Organizers advise due to the drought, flashlights, and solar lanterns should be used. Candles will not be permitted.
Finally, the media release bills this as a nonviolent event and requests all participants to refrain from verbal or physical hostilities and obey all laws and lawful orders of law enforcement. For more information on this event residents are asked to call 575-494-0009.
