Deming Police Captain Glenn Chadborn said that they received a call from the Motel a short time later, and responded. Officers evacuated the motel, and nearby RV park.

The male caller repeatedly called the motel speaking with a negotiator from the Police Department. His conversations lasted only a few minutes each and appeared to come from different numbers each time.
Chadborn said that demands were made that left the department believing the subject was not a local resident. Large amounts of money was demanded along with several general threats also being made.
Chadborn said the case has been given to the FBI for further investigation. About 12 Deming officers were on scene until the all clear was given about 6pm.
Assisting the Deming Police in this incident was officers from the New Mexico Motor Transportation Department… New Mexico State Police… New Mexico State Police Bomb Squad… Deming Fire Department… Luna County Emergency Management … and Corre Caminos.
Chadborn said the department was pleased with the handling of the situation, and that all departments worked well together.
