
House Bill 163, the Community Supplemental Support Fund, boosting New Mexican communities by appropriating funding and providing services for eligible municipalities with a high percentage of low-income residents, passed the House floor.
Sponsored by Representative Candie Sweetser (D-Deming), House Bill 163 supports eligible localities with populations between 10,000–25,000 that are struggling to fund operating expenses due to low tax revenue and higher than average poverty levels.
The Community Supplemental Support Fund will receive an initial general fund appropriation of $5,000,000. The funds would be distributed in proportional rates reflecting each specific town’s population and percentage of low-income persons.

House Bill 163 passed the House floor and now heads to the Senate for consideration.
