Luna County Sheriff’s Captain Jose Martinez said that Deputy Robert Nordorf who responded to the 911 call to help the woman also had to be hospitalized.
Martinez said the bees were found in the insulation under the 85-year-old woman’s mobile home in the 4000 block of Yucca Road.
An 86-year-old male relative dialed 911 for help after he and a 58-year-old woman – the daughter of the elderly victim – also were stung repeatedly.
Martinez said the Deputy Nordorf found the elderly woman on the ground covered by bees, and he was attacked while attempting to displace the bees attacking the woman’s face.
Emergency medical responders used a fire extinguisher to blow the bees off the woman and get her into an ambulance.
She was flown to Mountain View Hospital in Las Cruces, where she was stabilized and treated for the stings.
Deputy Nordorf who has served with the Luna County Sheriff's Department since 2015 was hospitalized overnight in Deming.
Martinez said all four victims are recovering.
Experts were called to remove the bees.
