City Administrator Rick McInturff said those figures were presented by the city’s insurance adjustor after the break-in last Wednesday morning which resulted in structural damage to walls and doors and facility-wide criminal damage.
McInturff said the total is so high because of contamination from fire extinguishers which were discharged throughout the pool office and into at least one of the pools. McInturff said they will have to wash the entire interior of the building to clean up the graffiti and fire extinguisher damage.
McInturff said they have another concern that pumps were operated without water and they are assessing the short-term and long-term damage done to those pumps.
He added that a disaster clean-up crew from Albuquerque will be arriving Monday to continue the extensive clean-up effort.
Again, anyone with information on the criminal damage at the pool is encouraged to contact Lt. Det. Matt Rudiger with the Deming Police Department at 546-3011, or Crime Stoppers at 546-7800 or Tipsoft by anonymously submitting information via text to LUNATIP at CRIMES – or 274637.
