
Preliminary figures from the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions show Luna County with an August unemployment rate of 8.7%, down from the revised July rate of 9.1%, but up from the August 2018 rate of 8.2%.
Luna remained the county with the highest unemployment in the state.
The next closest county in unemployment in August was McKinley at 7.6%.
In our area, Hidalgo County had 4.7% unemployment, Grant had 5%, and the Las Cruces area had 5.6%.
Three counties tied for having the lowest unemployment last month at 3.3%: Eddy, Los Alamos, and Union.
Unemployment statewide was 4.9% in August – unchanged from June and July.
The New Mexico labor force estimates show Luna County with a labor force of 10,574 – with 9,651 employed and 923 unemployed.
