
The BorderBelles CowBelles nominated Armendariz for the award in appreciation for his the continued support and publicity in reaching thousands of people for BEEF promotions. According to his nomination, “His outspoken championship of the importance of agriculture and beef in southwestern New Mexico has brought statewide attention to the CowBelle mission of promoting BEEF.”
Armendariz graduated from Deming High School and continued his studies at the University of New Mexico. He returned to Deming, married Becky Quarrell and raised two children, Jay Jay and Dustin. In 2004 Armendariz became editor of the Deming Headlight, after having served 22 years as sports editor. He is an active member of the community and has been involved in many organizations including the Lions Club, Loyal Order of Moose, Knights of Columbus and Little League. He has earned various community awards including Friend of Education.
"Billy has been a tremendous help to our organization," said Gwyn Ruebush, BorderBelles’ Nominating Chairman. "So much of the time the general public does not realize the numerous aspects of agriculture, thinking all goods are manufactured at stores. Billy has fused the link between rancher and farmer and the consumer in our area.”
"His help has enabled us to reach many more people than we ever would have been able to on our own," she continued, "using media and other resources. We are thankful he is behind our cause, helping in every way he can. Our local CowBelles are honored to have such a loyal supporter for agriculture and BEEF."
