Solitaire Homes Hot Air Balloon Mass Ascension Balloon Rally Planned

8/15/2022

Picture
DEMING - The Great American Duck Race Balloon Rally has been one of the Duck Race weekends greatest attractions since 1981. The return of Solitaire Homes continued sponsorship allows this event to continue to be a staple attraction. Weather permitting, each year balloonists set up and take down balloons and may ride along with the pilots during the flights early on Saturday and Sunday. Sponsors sometimes allow bystanders to jump in the basket and ascend for a joy ride as they leave the ground.
If the thought of observing this spectacle of lighter than air, multicolored, behemoths lumbering across the local landscape excites you, than you might be interested to know that you can join in on some of the fun. This rally invites attendees to volunteer to be part of the crews so if you’re a hot air balloon enthusiast, set your clock to rise early and rise above ground for one of the greatest times of your life.
The committee is looking for help with this year’s balloon rally. Organizers say they are in need of local volunteers to help with the mass ascensions on Saturday and Sunday, August 27 and 28 th as well as the balloon glow on Saturday evening at 7pm to prepare for a 7:30pm display.
Walk-on crews are welcome. Volunteers will get experience in the set-up and chase involved with hot air ballooning.
Anyone interested should show up with gloves to the east side of the Deming Youth Soccer Fields by 6:30am each morning and ask for Kristy Garay.
The 43rd Annual Great American Duck Races kicks off Thursday, August 25th with the Southwest Pediatric & Family Care Duck Royalty Pageant at the Deming Public Schools Auditorium and wraps up Sunday, August 28th with the final duck races being held around 3 p.m. at the Luna County Courthouse Park.
