     Angela Madrid, age 32, arrested on a Magistrate warrant for DWI, speeding, and driving with a suspended or revoked license…  Roy Allender, age 57, arrested for possession of amphetamines, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia…  Donnie E. Rhea, age 47, arrested for possession of a controlled substance, 2 Magistrate warrants, one for failure to appear, 1 for failure to pay fines and a Municipal warrant for failure to appear… Steven Walls, age 28, of El Paso, TX, arrested for impersonating a public officer…  Hernan Madrid, age 27, arrested for unlawful use of a license…
     Manuel Calvillo, age 25, arrested on a District court warrant for failure to appear, David Miranda, age 43, arrested on a Magistrate warrant for failure to pay fines and a Deming Municipal warrant for failure to pay fines…  Analisia Martinez, age 20, arrested on a Municipal court warrant for failure to appear…  Lorenzo Aguilera, age 35, arrested on a Deming Municipal warrant for failure to pay fines.

NMSP Conducts Extra Patrols during July

(Deming) - New Mexico State Police will be conducting sobriety checkpoints; saturation patrols; and registration, insurance and driver's license checkpoints in Luna County and all New Mexico counties during the month of July 2018.  
     According to a media release, State Police are bringing awareness to these events in an effort to reduce alcohol related fatalities through continued media attention and intensive advertising.       
     These checkpoints are helping to change society's attitude about drinking and driving. 
     Hundreds of lives could be saved each year if every driver had the courage to make the right decision not to drink and drive.

(Deming) – Here’s today’s local crime report:
     Ray Chavez, age 22, arrested on a Luna County Magistrate warrant for criminal sexual penetration of a minor, two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor – a female under the age of 13, and aggravated indecent exposure, and on a Dona Ana County warrant for failure to appear…  Ismael Chacon, age 27, arrested on a Magistrate warrant for failure to pay fines, and a Dona Ana warrant for failure to appear… Arturo Lugo, age 61, arrested on a Municipal warrant for failure to pay fines…  Ryan Hager, age 25, arrested for disorderly conduct.
     A cell phone valued at $70 was reported taken from a residence on South Diamond… Finally, a vehicle struck a bicyclist at the corner of Spruce and Gold .  A 2007 Dodge Charger driven by 47 year old Martha Ramirez of Deming turned in front of a bicyclist identified as 54 year old Rafael Camacho also of Deming.  Police reports indicate Camacho suffered damage to his right leg and was taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment.  Ramirez was cited for having no insurance, and causing an accident with injuries. 

Border Rally Against Zero Tolerance Policy Planned for Saturday

(Columbus) – Luna County Citizens are planning a Border Rally in Columbus, Saturday.           
     According to a media release, the purpose of the rally is to protest the Trump administration’s Zero Tolerance Policy that has separated children from their parents with no plan in place to reunite them. 
    
Local organizers say participants should meet at 10:30 Saturday morning at the Columbus Downtown Plaza on the south side of the gas station on Highway 11. 
    
Then participants will have a car caravan to the Immigration Memorial Shrine – and walk to the entrance of the Mexican Port of Entry. 
    
At 7:30 p.m., participants will hold a light vigil at the Columbus Plaza and be given an opportunity to speak.  Organizers advise due to the drought, flashlights, and solar lanterns should be used.  Candles will not be permitted.
     Finally, the media release bills this as a nonviolent event and requests all participants to refrain from verbal or physical hostilities and obey all laws and lawful orders of law enforcement.  For more information on this event residents are asked to call 575-494-0009.

     Jose Chavez, age 32, arrested for false imprisonment and battery on a household member… Berta Rodriguez, age 27, of Wilcox, AZ arrested on a Dona Ana County warrant for failure to appear and driving without a license… Javier Otero, age 21, arrested on a Magistrate warrant with charges…  Joaquin Islas, age 35, arrested on a Magistrate warrant for failure to appear… Juan Louis Hernandez, age 30, arrested on a Municipal warrant for failure to appear…  Ronald Carroll, age 50, arrested on a 6th Judicial District Court arrest warrant… Efrain Serrano, age 66, from Fontana, CA, arrested for refusing to sign citation…   Juan Carlos Wilson, age 21, cited for shoplifting at Walmart.
     In other reports:   forged checks were reported when the victim noticed the amount of the checks were changed to $100 more than written…  A door was damaged on a residence on South Nickle – damage listed at $50… 2 chow puppies were reported stolen from a residence on South Silver, the males were identified as grey and brown and 8 and 4 months old…  a window on a 1988 Ford vehicle was damaged on Tapia Road, damage listed at $125…  and finally, a license plate was reported stolen off a 2002 Toyota Tundra.

     Kayla Jean Burkhardt, age 21, arrested for receiving or transferring  stolen property… Randal Gobble, age 51, arrested for shoplifting and alcohol in public places…  Lori Paulk, age 46, arrested for concealing identity and on a Municipal warrant for failure to appear… Ryan Hager, age 28, arrested for disorderly conduct and interference with officers… Nick Margentina, age 38, arrested on a 6th Judicial District court warrant for probation violations… Carlos Torres, age 20, arrested on a District court juvenile warrant for probation violation… Jesus Ruiz, age 29, was arrested on two Bernalillo County warrants one for failure to appear, and one for failure to complete community service…  Stephanie Mares, age 39, cited for shoplifting at Walmart…  a 17 year old boy was cited for minor allowing self to be served alcohol.
     In other reports, a travel trailer valued at $200 and toolbox valued at $50 was taken from a residence on Laguna street.   Tools, a grill, and a stove with a total value of $4000 reported stolen from a residence on East Pine street.   Clothing and weight lifting equipment of unknown value was reported stolen from a residence on Iron street.  Nine chickens were killed by dogs on Candella road in the county, loss of the birds was listed at $90.  And finally, an American flag was reported taken from a home on South Silver street.  


City to Hold Town Hall Meeting Discussing Code Enforcement

(Deming) – Deming city officials will host a Town Hall meeting on Wednesday June 27th, to discuss code enforcement operations in the city.   The city will also be able to answer most other questions citizens may have that are brought before the staff.
     The Town Hall is set for noon on Wednesday, June 27th in the Andres V. Silva Conference Center, 119 E. Pine St.
     Anyone interested in more information on the city’s code enforcement and regulations are encouraged to attend.  Light refreshments will be provided.

     Edward A. Horey, age 30, was arrested for burglary and criminal damage to property… Luis Arturo Alarcon, age 28, arrested for possession of a controlled substance oxycodone, possession of a controlled substance tramadol, open container, improper equipment, unlawful use of a license and a Municipal warrant for failure to appear… Israel Vasquez, age 22, arrested for criminal damage to property and resisting evading or obstructing an officer…   Tommy Lee, age 42, possession of under an ounce of marijuana, and two Magistrate warrants for failure to pay fines…   Elizabeth Calvillo, age 28, arrested for driving with a suspended or revoked license, speeding and having an expired registration.
     Charles Alex Alvarez, age 41, arrested for resisting, evading or obstructing an officer, and on a Federal warrant…  Nelson Monee Lamont, arrested for trespassing and disorderly conduct…  Jesus Esteban Garcia, age 28, arrested for trespassing…   Anna Porras, age 41, arrested on a Municipal warrant for failure to appear…  Rafaela Quintana-Jimenez, age 48, arrested on a Magistrate warrant for failure to appear…   Bengie Perez, age 24, arrested on a Municipal warrant for failure to pay fines…  Victoria May Barraza, age 32, arrested on a Municipal warrant for failure to appear…  Adan Juarez, age 56, arrested on two Municipal warrants for failure to appear…  Mayra Flores, age 18, of Anthony, NM arrested on a Columbus Municipal warrant for failure to appear…
     Arturo Barraza, age 33, summoned into court for injuring or defacing property and battery… Sylvester Campa, age 35, summoned into court for injuring or defacing property…
     Two male juveniles, one 14 and one 16, were given juvenile summons for minor allowing self to be served alcohol.
     In other reports:   The Luna County Sheriff’s department responded to an accident with injuries on Interstate 10 mile marker 75 in the east bound lane.   According to the report, a 69 year old male from Eloy, Arizona was driving a 2014 Ford pick up when he was passing a 2003 RV pulling a Jeep.  The Ford struck the RV and Jeep and it rolled into the median.   The Ford had a 76 year old a female passenger.  The RV was driven by a 62 year old male with a 59 year old female passenger.   An ambulance was called to the scene, and it is unclear if anyone was transported for medical treatment.  Citations are pending. 
     Finally, Criminal damage to property occurred on Lucca Road after a 2002 Nissan had its driver side window broken, no value estimate was listed on the report.

Chamber announce Best of the Kingdom of the Sun

(Deming) – The Deming-Luna County Chamber of Commerce held their annual meeting Friday night at St. Clair Winery.
     Chamber officials revamped the "Community Achievement Awards" which were historically presented at the January Annual Gala, and this year’s winners were announced.
     The awards, were promoted as “The Best of the Kingdom of the Sun,” and are a result of a nomination and online public poll process.
      There were over 4000 online votes cast over the last few weeks.
     About 100 members and guests were in attendance.

County to Hold Four ICIP Meetings Next Week

(Deming) – Luna County officials have scheduled four public meetings next week to address the Infrastructure Capital Improvement Plan for 2020 through 2024.
     The purpose of the meetings is to have county staff available to answer questions and receive comments regarding future capital projects.
     Examples of past capital improvement projects include the Luna County Law Enforcement Complex, the renovation of the Luna County Healing House, the renovation of the Luna County Detention Center, the renovation of the Luna County Courthouse, and the Mimbres Valley Learning and Special Events Center.
     The meetings are set for Tuesday, June 26th, at 5 p.m., Wednesday, June 27th, at 10 a.m. and noon, and Thursday, June 28th, at 3 p.m.
     All meetings will be held in the Luna County Courthouse basement conference room.
