Luna County Gains Turquoise Level Status

4/29/2021

Picture
DEMING – Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham announced yesterday that the state is on track to vaccinate 60% of eligible residents by tomorrow and most public health restrictions on commercial activities and public spaces will be lifted.
Luna County, along with 30 other New Mexico counties will turn the least restrictive turquoise as of tomorrow.  30 of New Mexico’s 33 counties now qualify for the least restrictive Turquoise and Green levels, three at Yellow and none at Red.
The governor declared, "We are conquering COVID."
The first change comes on tomorrow, when the state loosens restrictions currently in place across the state.  The Governor said that the new turquoise level will last at least a month to prevent the yo-yo effect of switching COVID levels.
The state is now using the new criteria, which include local vaccination rates and higher thresholds for average daily cases and test positivity rates.
The state also modified its mask mandate Wednesday to align with revised guidance issued Tuesday by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Masks will no longer be required outdoors except in certain crowded conditions.
Youth sports will still require masks as well, and it will be strongly encouraged for adult sports, because those activities are higher-risk even outdoors.

DEMING – Deming High School is once again among the top 25 schools nationally in the running to win $50,000 toward its art education program in the Vans Custom Culture competition.
