DEMING – Here’s today’s local crime report:
     Christopher Rios, age 34, arrested for breaking and entering, criminal damage to property, resisting evading or obstructing an officer and possession and delivery to a minor of drug paraphernalia… Karina Nava, age 23, from Midland, TX, arrested on a Dona Ana County warrant for failure to pay fines…  Izabella Dodds, age 21, of Las Cruces, NM, arrested on a Dona Ana County warrant for failure to appear… Frederic Munoz Jr. age 40, arrested for unlawful use of a license, and two Municipal warrants for failure to appear Frederico Bravo, age 40, arrested for unlawful use of a license, and two Municipal warrants for failure to appear…  Manuel Tarrango, age 62, arrested on a Municipal warrant for failure to pay fines…  Elva Mondragon, age 23, of La Fuente, California, arrested for concealing identity, speeding and no driver’s license… James Hunt, age 40, from Irontown, Ohio, arrested on a Magistrate warrant for failure to appear… Joel Zamarripa, age 19, arrested for concealing identity, possession or delivery to a minor drug paraphernalia, and two Municipal warrants one for failure to appear, one for failure to pay fines… Crystal Pierro, age 40, arrested on a Municipal warrant for failure to appear and three Magistrate warrants for failure to pay fines…  Maricela Rodriguez, age 30, arrested for receiving or transferring a stolen motor vehicle…  Frank Salcedo, age 62, arrested on a Magistrate warrant for failure to appear…
     David Cuhen, age 28, cited for shoplifting at the Shoe Department store…  Russell Vatter, age 19, cited for possession of marijuana under an ounce and possession of drug paraphernalia…   A 16 year old boy was cited for possession of under an ounce of marijuana…



State Police to Hold Checkpoints in Luna County and NM in March

(Deming) - New Mexico State Police will be conducting sobriety checkpoints; saturation patrols; and registration, insurance and driver's license checkpoints in Luna County and all New Mexico counties during the month of March 2019.  
     According to a media release, State Police are bringing awareness to these events in an effort to reduce alcohol related fatalities through continued media attention and intensive advertising.       Studies show that these checkpoints are helping to change society's attitude about drinking and driving. 
     Hundreds of lives could be saved each year if every driver had the courage to make the right decision not to drink and drive.
     Again, New Mexico State Police will be conducting sobriety checkpoints; saturation patrols; and registration, insurance and driver's license checkpoints in Luna County and all New Mexico counties during the month of March 2019.  



Pet of the Week - Deming Animal Shelter - Charlie

This week we would like to introduce you to Charlie.

Charlie is a 2 year old male Chihuahua. He is house trained and leash broke. He is also very attentive and would make a great fit for any family.

As Pet of the Week, Charlie can be adopted for $32.50 -  half the regular price at Deming Animal Shelter.   And adoption includes neutering and all paperwork.

Interim Luna County Manager Resigns – Commission Meets to Select Manager

DEMING -  Current Interim County Manager, Glory Juarez is stepping down from her position. 
     Deming Radio News spoke with Juarez and was told that March 10th will be her last day working for Luna County.
     Juarez said that over the past 16 years, she has enjoyed the opportunities given her by Luna County, and is leaving with many fond memories.
     In a letter to the Commission dated February 21st, Juarez asked the Commission to accept her letter of resignation, and that it has been a tremendous honor and privilege to serve the citizens of Luna County.   She mentioned building strong relationships with co-workers, and other government and business organizations.
     Juarez did not state the reason for leaving the County, but said she was committed to assisting with a smooth transition.  And will leave an organized list of completed, current and upcoming initiatives. 
     The Commissioners will meet in Special Meeting and then Executive or Closed session Thursday February 28th at 2 p.m. to discuss the County Manager’s interviews and selection process, and the Interim County Manager’s position and transition.
     After the executive session, the board will meet in open meeting, and make a motion with a roll call vote. 
    The Special meeting is open to the public, the executive session is closed.

     After the executive session, the board will meet in open meeting, and make a motion with a roll call vote. 
    The Special meeting is open to the public, the executive session is closed.

Deming Board of Education Meets in Special Session Wednesday

DEMNG- The Deming Public Schools Board of Education will be meeting in executive session on Wednesday February 27th at noon.  The meeting will be held at the Emmet Shockley Administration Office 400 Cody Road.   The purpose of the executive session is to discuss pending or threatened litigation regarding collective bargaining with the district. 
     The meeting will be closed to the public, and no action will be taken.
     Again, the Deming Public Schools Board of Education meeting in closed, or executive session Wednesday at noon, to discuss pending or threatened litigation regarding collective bargaining.  No action will be taken.

     Gilberto Tagle, age 33, arrested for burglary and possession of firearm by a felon…  Ariana Avila, age 27, arrested for unlawful use of a license, expired registration and no insurance… Antoinette Reyes, age 30, arrested on a Municipal warrant for failure to appear… Nathaniel Kelly, age 24, arrested on a Municipal warrant for failure to appear… Gustavo Paz, age 28, arrested on a fugitive complaint warrant… Albert Mora, age 39, arrested on a District court warrant for failure to comply with conditions of release… Ted Trevino, 34, from San Antonio TX, arrested on a fugitive complaint warrant…  Donnie Rhea, age 40, arrested on a Magistrate warrant for failure to pay fines and possession of drug paraphernalia… Ricardo Rivera, age 25, arrested on a US Marshal’s warrant for probation violations… Brenda Susa, age 25, arrested for trespassing at Walmart.

     Martin Jacquez, age 24, arrested on a District court warrant for failure to appear, a Magistrate warrant on local charges, a Magistrate warrant for failure to pay fines, and for failure to appear… Jorge Reyes, age 29, from Hobbs was arrested on a Sierra County Magistrate warrant for failure to appear…  Uriel Salas, age 28, arrested for driving with a suspended or revoked license…  Jesus Renteria, age 42, arrested on a Municipal warrant for failure to appear…  Stacy Pruett, age 30, summoned into court for shoplifting at Family Dollar…  Eric Clayton, age 28, cited for alcohol in public places… Alejandra Arias, age 34, arrested on a Magistrate warrant for failure to pay fines, and cited for possession of under an ounce of marijuana… Michelle Mitchell, age 18, arrested on an Adult probation and parole warrant for probation violations…   Juan Gomez, age 28, arrested for concealing identity…  Bryan Porras, age 19, cited for possession of under an ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia…  Isac Alvares, 40, from Las Cruces, summoned into court for shoplifting at Family Dollar.
     Two cell phones valued at $520 was reported taken from a residence on South Saddler Street…  A generator valued at $2500 was reportedly tampered with at the Deming City yard at Pine and 8th Street.

DEMING – Here’s today’s local crime report:
     Michael Molina, age 27, from Albuquerque, arrested on a Magistrate warrant for failure to pay fines…  Luis Armendariz, age 39, arrested on a Deming Municipal arrest warrant…  Javier Garcia, age 29, arrested on a Municipal warrant for failure to pay fines…  William Plant, age 29, arrested on a Municipal warrant for failure to appear… Ruben Renteria, age 47, arrested on a Magistrate warrant for failure to appear… Christoval Lopez, age 36, arrested on a Magistrate warrant for failure to appear…  Nicole Bacon, age 42, arrested on a United States Marshals warrant. ..Rosa Theobald, age 33, was arrested on an adult probation and parole warrant for violating conditions of probation. 
     A television and boots, with a combined value of $180 was reported taken from a residence on Santa Fe Street…  a 2005 Chevy Tahoe reported stolen from El Paso, Texas was recovered by the Border Patrol on Highway 9 in southern Luna County.  Border Patrol officers stopped the vehicle, and found an undocumented person who was arrested on drug smuggling and alien smuggling charges, as well as being in possession of the stolen motor vehicle. 
     Criminal damage to property occurred on Calle DeMonte Road in the county after $150 in damages was done to the front door of a resident.  Finally, Pick up tail lamps with a total value of $500 were taken from a vehicle on Sunday Drive.

DEMING - As local Luna County 4-Her’s gathered around on Tuesday, February 19th, 2019, Pepper’s Supermarket was a little more crowded than usual. For the past several years, Luna County 4-H members have worked in conjunction with Luna County Farm and Livestock Bureau and the Luna County BorderBelles to purchase $1,200 worth of goods and then was donated to the Luna County Healing House and Domestic Violence Shelter.  
     The Healing House provides the group with a shopping list of needed items and 4-Her’s shop for the desired groceries and items. Everything from fresh produce and meats, to bottled water and canned goods are purchased and donated.
   The Agriculture community is very supportive of the local 4-H group and are more than happy to help out with this 4-H community service project. This project instills in you the importance of community service and involvement.
    4-H is a the largest nationally recognized youth organization in the largest in the world. The goal of 4-H is to develop citizenship, leadership, responsibility and life skills through experimental learning programs through positive youth development approaches. Members ranging from 5-19 can participate in many activities, projects, and community service at local, state and even national levels.
