During the 2018 Legislative Conference in Santa Fe, the New Mexico Association of Counties presented Luna County with an award of a $7,000 contribution refund due to the efforts of staff and the county’s Risk Management office.
The county has been recognized annually for its efforts to create a safer work environment since 2010.
County employees participate in a mandatory Risk Awareness Program training held every week. Short, 10 minute classes are led by county employees to inform their peers of laws, regulations and best practices to stay safe on the job and to protect taxpayer-funded equipment, machinery and supplies.
Subjects range from simple, preventative measures like keeping workspaces clean, to more complicated measures, such as avoiding exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
County employees moved to an online-bases training system to provide required annual training on issues like sexual harassment and the Family Medical Leave Act.
The New Mexico Association of Counties is a non-profit, nonpartisan association representing and serving New Mexico’s 33 counties.
